Cover Letter Sample -- For the Corporate Flight Attendant

Writing a cover letter to send with your résumé can be both confusing and frustrating. What exactly should you say? Are you saying too much? Are you only speaking about your needs vs. the company's needs? Oh, what to do! In this "short" piece, I will list some ideas on how to craft your cover letter. I have also provided some important links -- for additional assistance -- particularly if you find yourself still needing outside help.

Basics

* Make sure you use exactly the same type of paper you use for your résumé. White with white is best, business paper is strongly advised, especially paper containing 100% cotton. Cheap 20 lb. copier paper is a terrible idea!

* A matching business envelope {#10} is acceptable. Tri-fold your copies separately; when you place the cover letter inside the envelope, make sure that the letter is shown first [when you lift the flap of the envelope up] followed by your résumé. Fold it so that your name and contact information is the first thing the recruiter sees. If you choose to use a kraft envelope make sure that is no smaller than 9x12 or bigger than 10x13. Place an attractive computer generated label on it with your return address shown appropriately. If you must write on it, PRINT your information and do not be fancy. Remember: you want the post office and the company's mailroom to be able to read what you wrote! Otherwise, important time may be lost in the process.

* If you are emailing your information make sure that the job listing stipulates that attachments are okay. If not, don't you dare send attachments! Instead, within the body of an email message you can write your cover letter [a brief introduction] and then cut and paste your résumé. I cannot tell you how many files never get read when the person does not do as instructed. You can also follow up and mail in a hard [paper] copy if an address is provided.

Beginnings

* Match the header on your résumé with the header on your cover letter. They can and do get separated! An example header should look like this:

Jane Doe

14 Star Lane

Smithville, NC 27777 USA

Telephone: 919-555-1212

Cell Phone: 919-555-1213

Email: jdoe@nc.rrs.com

* Include your personal website address only if that information is valuable. If you host a site that is weird, inflammatory, adult oriented, or otherwise controversial, simply do not expect any response from the company.

* Put today's date on the cover letter.

* Next, include your contact's information, which can include:

Ms. Ellen Snow

Human Resources Coordinator

FlyByNight Aviation, Inc.

1234 Orville Wright Lane

Serendipity, NC 27776

* Your salutation comes next and should look like this

-- Dear Ms. Snow:

Body

* Keep in mind that your cover letter must not be lengthy. You can say all that must be said in no more than three, maybe four, brief paragraphs.

* Here is a sample:

Attached, please find a copy of my résumé for your review. I am interested in the position of corporate flight attendant listed online at http://www.flybynight.com.

I believe my three years of international flying experience along with my culinary background and language skills makes me the ideal candidate to serve FlyByNight's distinguished clientele. Currently, I work as an independent contractor and have flown to top destinations in Europe as well as throughout the U.S. and Canada. FlyByNight's need for a dependable, trained, and highly experienced team player is exactly the type of position I desire.

I look forward to meeting with you in person to discuss your particular needs and how I can help FlyByNight successfully carry out its mission as the best operator of private jets in the world. Feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience; I can be reached at 919-555-1212 or by on cell phone at 919-555-1213.

Byes

* Sincerely,

Jane Doe

Leave 3-4 lines from your "Sincerely" to your name. Your closing shouldn't include other words including Regards [too plain], Cheers! [too British], Love [too personal], etc. Remember, this is a business letter.

In summation, keep it short and specific. Have three or four main points you can emphasize about your strengths, particularly, those points which match with the points listed by the company in their job details. In this particular case the candidate emphasized her culinary, language, and international travel experience, as well as her availability. All four points were stressed in the company's job listing which read:

"...international jet operator is searching for an experienced cabin attendant. This position involves serving our on demand charter clients from east coast locations to destinations in the U.S. and abroad. Must have exceptional food service skills. Current training with FACTS, FlightSafety or similar training vendor; French or Spanish language skills: a plus...

You cannot avoid talking about yourself, but you can control how you talk about yourself.

Do not...

1. ...beg for an interview.

2. ...mention money or benefits. If the job listing "demands" that you list your salary requirements, simply state that salary is negotiable.

3. ...overly boast about your skills: think about what the company's needs are, do you think they care that you were the recipient of an NBAA scholarship? It is, however, okay to list scholarship awards on your résumé.

4. ...name drop. Unless, you already come highly recommended by someone they know and like. Your mentor may be well known in this industry, but not universally liked. You can use them on your list of references, however.

Tying it all together, this is what your cover letter could look like:

Jane Doe

14 Star Lane

Smithville, NC 27777 USA

Telephone: 919-555-1212

Cell Phone: 919-555-1213

Email: jdoe@nc.rrs.com

How to Get a Free Airline Upgrade on Your Flight - Fly Business Class

Everyone wants to buy a cheap economy class ticket and get bumped up and upgraded to business class or first class. Who doesn't want more comfort, more legroom, better service and the lounge access which come as standard for first and business class passengers. The current generation of flat seats in premium cabins of major carriers makes flying long-haul much more comfortable than ever before.

Every so often airlines will give out free upgrades for operational reasons. Here are a few basic tips for increasing your chances of getting that elusive upgrade and rubbing shoulder with the first class jet-set.

1. Become a member of your airline's frequent flyer program. If you can reach 'elite status' then you will greatly improve your likelihood of getting upgraded if there is any availability on the day you fly. Airlines will give upgrade priority to their top-tier members.

2. Avoid flying from your carrier's main hub if it is a large airport. You will be competing against masses of frequent flyer members so your chance of a free upgrade is minimal. For example it is difficult to get upgraded with British Airways if flying out of London Heathrow. You will be up against many top-tier BA Gold flyers - and possibly a few more with the even higher Gold Guest List or Premier VIP status.

3. Consider choosing one of the smaller frequent flyer programs with fewer members to reduce competition. The biggest programs in Europe are those of Lufthansa, AirFrance-KLM and British Airways with literally millions of members. US programs are massive - the top 3, United, American and Delta probably have well over 100 million members between them! A good option is to join a quality Asian based carrier like Thai Airlines or Cathay Pacific or smaller programs like Alaska Mileage Plan or bmi Diamond Club.

4. Book a flight that is likely to have a full economy section. Try to fly on wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 777 with plenty of available first class and business class seats. A few days before your flight, check the availability of business and first class seats by doing a pretend booking on your airline's website or use one of the class availability tools on the web.

5. Pay for a full fare economy or premium economy ticket on your flight which will also give you upgrade priority from the airline.

6. There is no harm in dressing well in 'smart casual' or business attire on the off-chance you are pre-upgraded and the airline is happy you will blend into its premium cabin. Note however, this is not a serious upgrade strategy today - it may have worked in the 1970s!

7. Look for cheap cash upgrade opportunities with your carrier at check-in - either online or at the airport.

8. Try and stay informed and up-to-date with airfare strategies and upgrade tips from industry experts and forums. The inside track can help you save both money and frequent flyer miles.

Flight Attendant Jobs: Who Is Hiring

The news for US legacy carriers continues to worsen. Northwest and Delta recently filed bankruptcy while several others are teetering toward insolvency. Finding employment with one of these carriers is difficult, particularly if you are seeking a career as a flight attendant. Still, there are jobs with some air carriers, if you know where to look. Let's take a look at some airlines that are likely to hire flight attendants over the next year or two.

The legacy carriers, which include American, Delta, Northwest, United, Continental, and USAirways, are probably not good places to look for stable employment. Earlier in 2005, Continental was hiring flight attendants, but the job market for the legacy carriers remains generally bleak. United remains in bankruptcy and USAirways recently exited bankruptcy and merged with America West Airlines.

On the other hand, the following discount, charter, and regional carriers have all hired flight attendants recently or are planning to do so over the next year:

* AirTran Airways

* Air Wisconsin Airlines

* Alaska Airlines/Horizon Airlines

* Champion Air

* Chautauqua Airlines

* Colgan Air

* Comair

* EOS Airlines

* Falcon Air Express

* Frontier Airlines

* Independence Airlines

* JetBlue Airways

* Maxjet Airlines

* Mesa Group

* Mesaba Airlines

* Miami Air

* North American Airlines

* Omni Air International

* Piedmont Airlines

* Pinnacle Airlines

* Shuttle America

* Skywest Airlines

* Southwest Airlines

* Spirit Airlines

* Transstates Airlines

* U.S. Airways

* USA3000 Airlines

* United Express

* Virgin America [awaiting FAA approval to fly]

* World Airways

Job fairs are a popular way for carriers to recruit, interview, and hire new employees. Check each company's website for detailed information about upcoming dates or visit an aviation job board such as the Aviation Employment Board for the latest job postings. Hiring plans can change at any time, so make sure that the information you gather is verified directly by the air carrier.

Web sites dedicated toward providing more information about becoming a flight attendant are legion on the internet. Some of the better sites include:

FlightAttendants.Org

Airline Flight Attendant Room {MSN Group}

If you are seeking a career as a private flight attendant, the Corporate Flight Attendant Community at http://www.corporateflyer.net is a full resource center offering informative articles, helpful links, training information, job listings, as well as an active message board: http://www.corporateflyer.net

Basic Airline Travel Tips to Follow Before Boarding a Flight

Are you planning to fly to your place of interest anytime soon? Well, before you plan your holiday, it is very essential to bear in mind certain important things to avoid any last-minute hassles and make your vacation a memorable one. Following travel and luggage tips will help you plan your tour in a better way:

1) Airline

• If you have planned your tour during the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year, it is better to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure. This is because these weeks are the busiest times of the year and the security check lines are very long. Similarly, most airports are extremely crowded on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons.

• In order to reduce the possibilities of a delay, it is advisable to prefer a non-stop flight over a break flight. As the air traffic is comparatively less in morning, the early morning flights are very less likely to be delayed.

• At the security check of almost all the airports, passengers are asked to remove their footwear. Therefore, it is always better to wear clean socks and slip-on shoes.

• As the passengers are required to furnish their identification proof several times before boarding, make sure you carry a lanyard with a plastic passport holder. This will ensure easy I.D. access.

2) Luggage:

• As the fee charged for checked bags vary between different airlines, make sure you enquire about the baggage rates with the particular airline.

• Never wrap your packages.

• Carry essentials, such as electronics, medications, and other valuable items, in your carry-on luggage.

• Make sure you have labeled all your checked and carry-on baggage with your name or initials and your contact details. For easy and quick identification of your luggage, you can tie a colorful satin ribbon on the handle of each luggage piece. This will help you easily differentiate your luggage from that of your co-passengers.

• Do not lock your bags as the lock might be cut off of your baggage for random inspection by the Transportation Security Administration. If you still wish to lock your bags, use the TSA approved locks instead of the normal ones.

• If you are carrying your laptop computer along with you, bear in mind that you will be asked to remove it from its case and put it through the X-Ray machine. Therefore, come prepared accordingly.

• If you are having with you prescription medicines, baby formula, breast milk, or diabetic nutritional supplements, do not forget to declare the same at the check point.

• Gels, pastes, or liquids should be placed in one quart (1 liter) plastic bag and packed in the carry-on luggage.

The above airline travel tips will definitely help you prepare yourself well before you finally board a flight to your destination.

How to Have a Comfortable Long Flight Journey

You can enjoy your flight trip by making yourself comfortable. By following these steps you can be comfortable on a long airplane trip.

Arrive at the airport beforehand. By arriving soon you can reduce the stress of delay and problems faced at the airport.

Many flights are delayed due to weather or fuller planes. If you have planned ahead, you should have plenty of time to get to your final destination, even if there are delays. Expect them and have something to occupy your time while waiting.

Wear loose clothes while flying because you will be sitting for a while. In the current economic scenario, flights are high on fees and low on service. Due to recession, you have to purchase coffee, soda and water for a steep charge. Try coming to airport soon so that you get enough time to purchase water and snacks. You can also bring your snacks from home. Pack salty and sweet to cover all your cravings.

Try carrying your headphone and MP3 for music. Headphones prevent other passengers from talking to you even if you don't turn them on. You can get a little privacy if you bring your own portable entertainment. Music and movies are also great distracters for passing the time.

Remove your shoes to avoid swelling. Since you have a long flight you can take off your shoes and stretch your toes.

Get up every few hours and walk the length of the plane when possible. Air travel may be stressful due to delays, distractions or due to grumbling of other passengers. Don't let others get to you. Take a nap if you can. If not, just breathe deeply and relax.

Things needed for comfortable traveling during long flights:

-Carry your headphones, sweaters and meals along with you.
-Eye drops and lip balm or other protective gel.
-To while away your time carry books, Sudoku etc.
-Portable gaming system
-Eye shades, Inflatable Neck Pillow
-Clean pair of socks, clean shirt, mini travel towel, Listerine Pocket Pack and Jet lag pills.

Consider seat selection. If you're looking for extra legroom, the best seats are in the exit rows.You have to meet certain requirements to book these seats. On the other hand, some airlines offer the seats you desire, if your willing to pay additional fees for the same. While choosing a window or aisle seat, find out what your needs are in advance. If you choose an aisle seat, you can move around in the cabin easily without disturbing people, enabling you to relax more. By choosing a window seat, you have something to lean against to sleep during the flight.

Cheap Plane Flight - Strategies to Get the Lowest Tickets

Air travel is generally regarded as being an expensive luxury especially during the holiday season. Many travelers who are on a tight budget often find it difficult to find a cheap plane flight. However, the following tips may help you to find the best discounted offers on the market and save hundreds of dollars off the cost of your tickets.

Travel consolidators.

When looking for a cheap plane flight it is sometimes a good idea to check with a Travel consolidator. A travel consolidator buys up plane seats in bulk from the airline carriers and then sells them at a reduced rate to the normal price. Quite often, you can buy a cheap plane flight from a travel consolidator for much less than if you were buying it from the airline carrier itself. With a Travel Consolidator, it is better to book far in advance to ensure you get the largest discount available. However, do not discount them if you need a cheap plane flight at short notice because you can get massive savings on any unsold seats on flights that are within a few days of the scheduled departure.

Travel Predictors.

A little known strategy for getting a cheap plane flight is to use a travel predictor. A travel predictor is an online service that allows you to compare the rates of many airline carriers. A travel predictor will also tell you if the price of a particular airline ticket is rising or falling and then predicts which way the price is likely to go. It will then advise you whether or not you should buy your ticket or to wait a little longer. One travel predictor site is http://Bing.com/travel and I highly recommend that you take a look.

How to Get a Free Airline Upgrade on Your Flight

Everyone loves to get free things, right? Well what if I told you that I know how you can get a free upgrade on your flight, leading you to sit in business class for free? Since no one wants to sit back in the economy class, I want to give you some great tips that work for me and a thousand others that have implemented these tricks as well.

Join the airline's programs - You're going to find that airlines have programs from credit cards, to signing up for miles. You'll want to do this, and most of the time it's free. This is going to increase your chances big time, because it's going to show them that you're loyal to the airlines, which is a very good thing.

Get the desk early - When you're about to fly, you'll want to make sure that you go straight to the desk, and ask if there are any first class openings. If first class isn't full, you'll find that they will put your name on the waiting list. The trick here is to make sure that you're flying out of a smaller airport, rather than a bigger one.

Dress to impress - Since many airlines want nice looking people in the front (trust me, they do), if you dress to impress, this is going to increase your chances as well. The flight attendant, and passengers around you don't want to deal with some hillbilly wearing cut off shorts yelling for beer all the time.

Hidden Fees Can Zap a Cheap Flight Price

Hidden fees seem to be the norm when it comes to traveling via air nowadays. More and more airlines are learning to offset the cost of their growing expenses by passing the buck on to their passengers, which can make what looks like a cheap flight on the surface turn into a more expensive flight than you had planned on. The modern traveler now has to really take a good look at the fine print that is often hiding behind the cost of their ticket in order to determine just how much they are really being charged when they hit the friendly skies. You can avoid this unpleasant surprise by knowing what to watch for when buying your ticket for a cheap flight to your next destination.

At first glance, many offers for airfare seem more than reasonable, but it is only when you discover what charges will be "tacked" on by the airline that you actually discover your expense for flying. Fees and taxes can take a cheap flight and turn it into a very expensive one in the blink of an eye. Most of the fees that are imposed on you as a traveler are actually those that are required by the U.S. government, but the airlines themselves are passing on fees that compensate them for things like jet fuel, more personnel at the airport to abide by increased restrictions on air travel, and more. You might also be paying a travel agent or other company a booking or processing fee. And if you are on a flight that must connect in one or more cities, look out. You may very well be charged fees more than once for flying in two "segments" of takeoffs and landings. Each fee in itself does not appear to be too grandiose; however, added all together, the taxes and fees on your ticket or a group of tickets for your family can be quite significant.

Look to pay government taxes on your cheap flight, and these can really add up. Within the U.S., domestic travelers are charged a fee known as the September 11th Security Fee, which is an extra $2.50 per ticket, per flight segment, but can be no more than $10 for a round trip flight. You will also pay the government 7.5% of the base ticket price as a transportation ticket tax. A flight segment fee of $3.30 per flight segment is also paid to Uncle Sam. Facility charges for passengers range from $4.50 to $18 depending on your destination. If you're flying to an international destination, be prepared to pay more, or if you're flying into the U.S. from another country; in fact, you might pay $200 or more in additional fees for international travel by way of the international departure and arrival tax. Flights from abroad also incur a $5 charge from the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection service, and an INS fee of $7 dollars. But it doesn't stop there. After the government and the airline have dipped into your pocket, online travel agencies may charge you as much as fifty bucks for booking your flight. Airlines might also charge you for switching your flight as well; some airlines charge $100 plus the cost of your new ticket to switch planes or flights. And if you don't want to print your ticket out yourself, you might pay another fifty dollars for the airline to do it for you. And unbelievably, some airlines will even charge you for selling you your airline ticket by phone. And don't forget baggage fees. Some airlines won't check a single bag for you without charging.

As a traveler, your best bet is to get an all-inclusive cheap flight and to read the fine print that accompanies your ticket in depth before paying for the ticket. Some travel companies will book your flight and pay all related fees, taxes, and other costs in with the cost.

Cheap Ticket Flight - Strategies to Find the Best Airfare Deals Available

These days it is much harder to find a reasonably cheap ticket flight that fits within our ever shrinking travel budget. With the increase of taxes and oil prices, flights Have become very expensive and occasionally overpriced when demand is high or during the peak season.

For the best airfare deals you must conduct a thorough research of the market.

The internet is a great way of getting a cheap ticket flight deal through the many airline and travel websites available. Being able to compare different rates and daily schedules of the many airline carriers and travel companies is very handy. It is also very convenient for consumers to be able to make their travel plans from the comfort of their own home, or perhaps the office.

A good trick for securing a very cheap ticket flight is to contact the travel companies late in the evening or even the early hours of the morning. This is because most companies decide on the following days discounts and deals at the close of hours of the previous day. By contacting them early you will ensure that the best deals have not been taken.

If you cannot find a cheap ticket flight with the major carriers to suit your budget you could always opt for one of the many budget airline companies also known as the no frills Carriers. The seating is little cramped but what they lack in quality is offset by the savings you can make by flying with them.

Of course, all of the tips above could get you a reasonable discount but much bigger savings are a little harder to come by. Employees of the airline and travel industry and their relatives, regularly enjoy fantastic reductions on flight tickets and often free upgrades on their seats by using secret methods and tricks known only to themselves. So, if you could find someone who is willing to share those secrets with you then that would give you cheap ticket flights all year round.

How to Prepare For a Flight

Flying somewhere? Yeah everyone is. Flying is now one of the most common ways of traveling and why not? It's fast, convenient and at times, cheaper as well. But with such benefits definitely come with some problems and hassles as well. This article will identify some of them, and give you a few short tips as well.

The airport terminal can be rather big, so it's better to familiarize yourself with the general map and directory of the whole place, such as knowing where the restaurants, washrooms and the various shops are. All these steps helps in getting where you want fast, to ensure that that you will be able to get to your flight on time so that no time will be wasted.

If you happen to be taking medicine, do take it before the flight takes off, or better still, do it before you get into the plane. The medicine does need some time to get into your system, so it will be best if you can take it beforehand.

Make sure your luggage is tagged, as it will most certainly help you to identify your luggage almost immediately when you are collecting them. If you are changing flights, check if it is possible to get your luggage to the final destination so when changing flights you'll be spared much of the hassle.

Prepare yourself physically before the flight, go running or go to the gym to lift some weights before you get onboard the plane, such exercises can help to freshen you up and relieve the tiredness that comes with the flight.

Save as much money as possible, bring your own eye masks and head phones to block out the sound whenever you may need it. Bring your own small cushion or inflatable neck rest as well, these can help to make you sleep better and give that extra comfort free of charge.

I hope these articles have helped you quite a bit, as much as they helped me on my flights. I wish you a pleasant flight wherever you go!

Last Minute Flight Deals - Is it Possible to Get Cheap Last Minute Travel Deals?

Most of the time when you're going on a vacation or taking a trip you're not looking for last-minute flight deals because, optimally, you have made your travel plans well in advance. But sometimes for whatever reason you may find yourself needing to take a trip at the last minute and hence you find yourself looking for a great price on a spur of the moment ticket.

A lot of people will tell you that it is impossible to find cheap plane tickets if you wait until just before the flight. In most cases that is true. But sometimes, with a little digging, you can come up with a great deal.

Your first stop should be the Internet. You can find us about any deal you need online. First check out the online travel agencies like Travelocity and see what kind of prices come up. Most likely they will be pretty high. If you don't find anything at any of these sites then go ahead and check with the website of the airlines themselves. Sometimes you can find a discounted fare that you can pick up in the last day or two before your planned trip.

If you have no luck at either of those sites, the best thing to do is pick up the phone and call the airlines. If you are wanting to travel within the next 24 hours, you can often find some rock-bottom prices and here's why. The airlines ultimately want to fill all the seats on their flights. Of course they would like to fill them at the higher-cost prices, but if they see the time of the flight drawing near and they don't have a full plane, they are more than likely to heavily discount the fares right about that time.

But the key is you must call and speak to someone. If you don't have any success with one airline, try another. And then wait a few hours and try again. The closer to the time of the flight, the more likely you are to find a cheap fare right at the last minute.

As there are so many sites you can easily get all the information readily available in the internet. You can in fact sign up with a good travel site or subscribe to their newsletter to get the airfares direct to your mail box.

Once you enhance your skills to find cheap international airfare, you can know when exactly the price falls. You will be able to bargain for the cheapest flight deals by knowing at what time you can get cheap tickets. Traveling at odd time can reduce the airfare and also in the off seasons you can avail such offers. However, you have to be vigilant enough in finding when prices fall and when you can book cheap international flights.

Some airlines offer cheap tickets on some special days of the week but do not advertise about it. You have to keep track of these offers and plan your trip accordingly. Also the time when you call to book a ticket is important because after midnight the first call is usually given a discount. You have to therefore try calling just after 12 pm to book cheap international flight tickets. This happens because the airlines update their computerized ticket booking system in the midnight on a daily basis.

You should also try not to book international flights at weekends. Usually many travelers book their tickets in the week ends. If you want discount tickets then you should go for some other day of the week other than week ends. Therefore to avail cheapest flight deals you have to consider the time when you purchase your ticket.

Top 10 Travel Tips To Help You Book A Dirt Cheap Flight

Smart travelers don't sit in a travel agents office to plan their vacations anymore, they go to travel websites to find discount airfare deals and book their own cheap flights. Airline carriers are at war and smart consumers who know the secrets to finding great online travel deals, can take advantage of this instability and save hundreds on their plane tickets.

Despite what you may have heard, tickets on flights are not sold at a fixed rate. Most airlines have a complex grading system in place for ticket prices. They have a set number of seats they must fill for a certain price and a second block of seats they will let go for a slightly cheaper ticket price and third set of seats for a another discounted ticket price. So, at any given time when you try to buy online airline tickets, you could come up with a number of different prices.

The secret to dirt cheap airfare, is knowing exactly when, where and how to buy the tickets. Timing is everything when it comes to finding cheap airfare. Should you buy your tickets one, two or six months before your desired departure date? Will you save more by purchasing round trip tickets or one way flights? Should you travel on or off season, and exactly when are the popular flight travel seasons? And finally, should you buy your plane tickets through a discount travel site, or through a popular travel search directory like Expedia or Travelocity?

Your first tip to find cheap airfare is to check out several travel directories that offer price results for all the major airlines so that you can compare ticket prices at a glance. My favorites are Expedia.com for their consistently low flight price quotes and easy two click price checks, Cheaptickets,com for their large inventory of cheap airfare selections and sidestep.com for their huge selection of customized flight results. As a traveler you need to log on to these websites and get a feel for how often the prices change and bookmark them for future use.

Airlines and travel websites offer bigger discounts and cheaper airfare prices to people who book online because it saves them the overhead costs of printing and handling a paper ticket. So be sure to use the e-ticket option when purchasing your plane tickets online. Don't wait till the last minute though, the best cheap airfare prices are found about 21 days before your departure date.

The highest plane ticket prices are found 14 days or less before departure, so don't wait till the last minute to buy your ticket if you're hoping to find discount airfare. But keep in mind that many airlines give away dirt cheap plane tickets about half an hour before liftoff.

Be sure to purchase round trip tickets rather than one way, the best cheap airfare deals are usually offered to round trip travelers.

Cheap flights during the holidays can be hard to find, the secret is to fly the day of the holiday not the day before or after when flights are jam packed.

You can save even more money on airfare if your plan your vacation during the off season. Travel professionals say that the best time to book a cheap flight online is mid-January to end February, April through May, and in the fall from mid-September to mid-December.

The time of day that you book online plane tickets is important too. If you checked plane ticket prices at 6 am and then again at 6 pm on the same travel website, you'd be shocked to find that you just lost 20 or 30 bucks by waiting too long or not long enough. Another variable that is imperative to finding dirt cheap flights is, the day of the week you make your online ticket purchase. Most traveler's purchase their tickets on a Saturday or Sunday, but is that the smartest day to get dirt cheap airfare?

Extremely Cheap Last Minute Flight Tickets

Any type of emergency can occur where you are forced to buy an airfare or you may fall into the category of persons that have jobs that require them to travel on very short notice. Finding tickets during this time that is still within a reasonable price range may be very hard to do but not impossible. With the right information, there are still ways of getting airfare tickets at reasonable rates that allows you to buy a airfare ticket on a low budget while still getting you to your desired destination.

When you are aware of your travel destination, try to choose the airport that is more likely to be closer to your destination. Doing this may have an impact on the price you pay for airfare and give you a lower price than the regular priced plane tickets for getting to where you need to be. If you know that you may be requested to travel at any given time, the best option is to join with a website company that send you daily update on all available travel deals. some of the sites that offer this service are budgettravel.com, shermanstravel.com and bookingboddy.com. These websites email information on cheap last minute flights on a regular basis so you can receive the best flights for the least amount of money.

Another approach that can be implemented for cutting down on the amount you have to spend at the airport is to decrease the amount of bags you take with you. Almost every airline ask for additional fees if you possess more than one bag. The next time you have to take a trip at the last minute try to do it with only one carry-on bag, if this is not possible then try to travel with only one check on luggage at most and you should make sure that the weight of the check on luggage does not go over the weight limit of the air carrier as this may attract added cost as well.

Sometimes a round trip ticket offers the most affordable price for a last minute flight when compared to one way plane tickets. Even if your original plans were to make the trip one way, this may have to be changed in order to take advantage of the discounted rate on the airfare. Despite the fact that your visit may be last minute you can still get a flight that departs at a certain time of the day that allows you to arrive at your destination within a reasonable time. Certain times throughout the day can also have an implication on price of a ticket, so picking a specified time may provide you with a cheaper last minute flight. If you are able to choose your days of travel then generally Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays offer the cheapest prices on flight tickets, this can possibly save you hundreds of dollars.

Cheap Flight Tips to Reduce Your Airfare Today

Here are 15 quick tips to help you find that cheap flight and lower the cost of your next airline ticket.

Flexibility is the key

Be flexible with your potential flight dates and always plan ahead of time. Air ticket prices are highly dynamic and depend on demand, supply and competition.

Know your market!

For the route you want to fly monitor the airfares for a while and try to find out the lowest published fare. Don't accept the very first fare you find.

Fly off-season

Fly during 'off-peak' or 'shoulder' seasons. Do not fly during the peak time of year. (If you do make sure you book well in advance!)

Fly midweek

Flights that depart during the midweek (Tuesday to Thursday) tend to be cheaper from less demand. Avoid Friday and Sunday evenings and Monday morning.

Hit the red-eye

Very early morning or late evening flights are less busy - and can sometimes be cheaper than flights in the middle of the day. Peak hours when flights are at their fullest are 8 to 11am and 4 to 7pm. Good deals can be found on 'red-eye' overnight flights which people like to avoid.

Holiday periods

Fly on a major holiday when demand plummets - there can be some incredible deals available. Avoid flying just before and after the holidays when people are travelling back home.

Check ticket restrictions

Beware the infamous Saturday night stay restriction - some airlines still have this. Check your carrier's terms and conditions.

Stay less than a month

Many fare tariffs have a 30 day maximum stay restriction. In other words if you stay longer than 30 days the ticket will be more costly.

Circumnavigate

Flying long-haul in business class or first class? Always get a quote on a round the world ticket and compare prices. Round-the-world business class and first class airfares are often cheaper than a full fare return trip - and you will get many more exciting stopovers for free.

Take a detour

Flights with a change of plane at a connecting airport are usually cheaper than non-stop flights. You pay less for the inconvenience.

Hub it!

If flying long-haul into Europe it may be cheaper to fly into a budget hub like London for 2 reasons. The first is that flights to London are often cheaper than flights travelling to other destinations on the continent. Secondly, London is a hub for a myriad of budget airlines (low-cost discount carriers) which have extensive networks all over Europe. The main two are Ryanair and Easyjet and using them can save you hundreds of dollars while allowing a high degree of flexibility in terms of one-way flights.

Check the code

If your flight is 'code shared' then check the price of the same flight with different alliance partners. There can often be considerable price differences between airlines. Taking the One World alliance as an example, you should check the price of the same flight with both American Airlines and British Airways.

Get on the list

Sign up to the newsletters of your favourite airlines and travel sites. You will be the first to see any special offers and deals.

Go Budget Long-Haul

Price up your flight with one of the new generation of budget long-haul carriers. Oasis Hong Kong Airlines flies from Hong Kong to both London and Vancouver. Air Asia X flies from Kuala Lumpur to Gold Coast in Australia with big plans to widen its route network worldwide.

Invest in yourself

If you are a serious international traveller looking for superb insider strategies to reduce your flying costs then you really should invest in the Ultimate Airfares & Upgrades guide. It contains powerful information on lowering your airfares and also flying first class and business class on a budget.
